I really did this...

I read a Pinterest post the other day that said, "You can't please everyone, so do it for yourself." That is what this blog is. Something I am doing for myself. I brought up the idea of making a blog to a couple of my friends and I got very mixed reactions. Some laughed at me and said that it would be super extra of me to make one. Others said go for it if it will make you happy. I took all of these responses into consideration when deciding if I wanted to create a blog or not. In the end, I decided to go for it because what am I if not extra.

Now, I wanted to create a list of reasons I created this blog. Not to validate my decision, but to look back and see how far I have come.

1) to write more often and practice writing styles

Since coming to college, I have written in so many different styles and genres now and I think that sometimes, I just need to practice writing informally and freely. I want to be able to practice skills and techniques that will add experience to being a content writer.

2) to journal and document aspects of my life

Obviously I will not be sharing a lot of personal things on my blog, but I wanted a way to document parts of my life worth remembering. College is a time that many thrive and I want to creatively save these memories. I have a One Line A Day Journal which I love, but there are some things I want to remember in more than just a sentence or two

3) to gain experience with different media

I aspire to be a digital media marketer. I really hope I will be able to do so in my life. One type of media that I am not very well-versed in is the style of blogging. There is a huge market for bloggers and many companies reach out to them. If I am going to be marketing for a company, I need to know all mediums.

4) a creative outlet

I spend a lot of time on media platforms. If you know me in real life, many people describe me as being extra. Hence the name of the blog (which is a work in progress). I love to take and edit pictures, shop, and do my makeup in creative ways. I want another creative outlet that can be productive and calming.

I have not decided on a schedule of posting or anything, but I wanted to go ahead and start this blog. It is something I have been thinking about for a while, and I am excited to finally go for it. If I don't start today, I never will. My next post will probably just be me telling everyone a little bit about myself so can't wait for that.
